Captain Barrie Kent joined the Navy from Pangbourne College in 1940, and specialised in Signals in 1947. His experience in this field includes having been Fleet Communiction Officer, Home Fleet, Chief Signal Officer of the NATO Northern Command in Oslo and Captain of the Signal School. In the Admiralty in the 1950's he was responsible for the Naval 'Y' Service and later, after a year at the Imperial Defence College, he was Director of Naval Manning.
