The 1953 Review programme showed two Mechanician's badges, one for the ENGINE ROOM and for the FLEET AIR ARM. Both carried the caveat that they were for Mechanicians who were not entitled to trade pay. They also showed an Artisan's badge.

By the time the 1977 Review came along the practice of Mechanicians, Technicians, Artisans and Artificers wearing badges (those that did) had long since past. The word mechanic had been reused in the stokers branch, the electrical branch and the fleet air arm but with a different meaning!
